Building Hospitality Beyond Numbers
June 25, 2026
As we approach summer 2026, Malta’s tourism industry has continued to show strong growth and increasing international interest in the traditionally slower months of the year.
The stories in this edition reflect some of the ongoing work being carried out by the Malta Tourism Authority together with industry partners, and tourism professionals to promote the Maltese Islands in important international markets.
From recognition received in the United States to cultural events in Malta and promotional activities overseas, these initiatives continue to strengthen Malta’s reputation as a destination that offers both quality experiences and authentic culture.
This edition also highlights the success of VisitMalta North America, winner of two important awards in the United States for destination leadership and social responsibility. These recognitions reflect the continued work being done to increase Malta’s visibility in long-haul markets and the respected reputation being built while promoting the islands as a welcoming Mediterranean destination.
We also take a look at the Malta Tourism Awards 2025, which recognised businesses and individuals who continue to contribute positively to the tourism industry through their hard work, service and professionalism. Tourism is driven by people, and it is important to acknowledge those who help create positive experiences for visitors every day.
Another important milestone this year was the 25th anniversary of the Malta International Fireworks Festival. Over the years, the festival has grown into one of Malta’s best-known cultural events, attracting large audiences every year. This year’s edition reached even wider international audiences through VisitMalta’s live broadcasts across major U.S. media platforms, helping showcase Malta’s traditions and culture to millions of viewers abroad.
This edition also features VisitMalta’s recent culinary promotion in Australia, where Maltese food and wine were introduced to leading travel media and tourism professionals through a series of exclusive dining events. Initiatives like these continue to help position Malta as a destination known for its culture, hospitality and Mediterranean lifestyle.
Together, these stories reflect the Malta Tourism Authority’s continued commitment to promoting Malta internationally, supporting sustainable tourism growth and strengthening Malta’s position as a year-round destination.

The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) was formally set up by the Malta Travel and Tourism Service Act (1999). This clearly defines its role - extending it beyond that of international marketing to include a domestic, motivating, directional, co-ordinating and regulatory role. The Act strengthens the public and private partnership in tourism through greater and more direct participation by the private sector in national planning and development of the industry.
