Article written by Dr Gavin Gulia, Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority.
Since the pandemic, the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA)
has strengthened its collaboration with the local tourism
industry, focusing on recovery and sustainability.
VisitMalta’s overseas marketing efforts have been crucial
to this role. Hence, it has become essential for the MTA
to regularly share updates on its strategies, ongoing
initiatives, and the dedicated efforts of the authority and
its employees.
In line with this commitment, the MTA has launched the
International PR and Marketing Diary, a monthly online
newsletter designed to keep the tourism industry informed
about international marketing efforts. The newsletter
encompasses a marketing overview of marketing activity
from previous months. We invite everyone involved in the
Maltese tourism sector, as well as individuals interested
in learning more about the industry, to subscribe and
receive these updates.
One very recent activity that the MTA undertook to
promote one of its key tourism segments was the Michelin
Four Hands Dinner at the prestigious Saint James in
Paris, France. This annual dinner event, renowned for
its culinary excellence, focuses on showcasing Malta’s
vibrant gastronomic culture, whilst bringing together
influential food and travel personalities to experience and
document the event on their social media platforms.
As we now approach the festive season and,
subsequently, the end of the year, we cannot but reflect
on the significant milestones we have achieved over the
past twelve months.
This has been a remarkable year. We started the year by
celebrating the success of the 2023 tourism results, an
achievement made possible by the collective efforts of
the MTA and our stakeholders. The launch of the MTA’s
first National Tourism Conference further demonstrated
our commitment to encouraging dialogue and innovation
within the industry. In addition, this year marked the 25th
Anniversary of the Malta Tourism Authority, a milestone
that allowed us to reflect on the journey we have taken
and the progress we have made as a leading tourism
destination.
The end of the year is also a time for looking forward
towards our exciting prospects and our future
endeavours. With that in mind, I would like to use this
note to make a personal announcement. As the New
Year approaches, it will mark the conclusion of my tenure
as Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority. After 11
rewarding and fulfilling years at the helm of the MTA,
I am proud of what we have accomplished together in
positioning Malta as a top global destination. While my
time as Chairman is coming to an end, I am filled with
excitement and anticipation to continue contributing to
Malta’s thriving tourism sector during the next chapter
that awaits.
As I move forward, I remain deeply committed to Malta’s
future in tourism, confident that the foundations we’ve
built will only grow stronger in the years to come.
SAĦĦA!
