Article written by Gavin Gulia, Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority.
As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), I am filled with pride and gratitude to be part of this remarkable journey.
Over the past quarter century, the MTA has worked hard to transform the Maltese islands into a premier tourist destination, recognized worldwide for the unique heritage, beautiful landscapes, and exceptional hospitality from the locals. This milestone is a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved in the tourism sector.
This year also marks a significant transition as we bid farewell to our annual Star Awards and introduce the new Malta Tourism Awards.
This novel era reflects the evolution of our tourism industry which not only celebrates the outstanding quality service and achievements within our vibrant tourism industry, but also recognizes and honours the adoption of sustainable measures that promise longevity for Malta’s tourism industry.
Looking ahead, we are excited about the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to further enhance our operations and visitor experiences. AI will play a crucial role in offering quality data, setting research foundations, personalising marketing strategies, improving customer service, and optimising our resources to meet the ever-changing demands of global tourism.
The MTA is dedicated to embracing these technological advancements to maintain our competitive edge, continue delivering exceptional experiences to our visitors, and move towards a sustainable tourism future.
In conclusion, I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who has contributed to Malta’s tourism success. To our industry stakeholders, partners, and most importantly, the past and present staff members of the MTA, your relentless efforts and unwavering dedication have been instrumental in shaping Malta into the thriving tourism destination it is today.
Your passion and commitment will undoubtedly drive us to new heights as we embark on the next chapter of our journey.
Thank you for being an integral part of this incredible story.
SAĦĦA!
The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) was formally set up by the Malta Travel and Tourism Service Act (1999). This clearly defines its role - extending it beyond that of international marketing to include a domestic, motivating, directional, co-ordinating and regulatory role. The Act strengthens the public and private partnership in tourism through greater and more direct participation by the private sector in national planning and development of the industry.
