Forbes International Star Award Launched

Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo announces details on the Forbes International Star Award-Intercontinental Hotel, St Julian’s-6-10-21

Malta will be the first country in the world to participate in the Forbes International Star Award. This is a programme intended to certify restaurants and hotels with a view to training and rewarding the hospitality sector for the tourist product that is offended to the public.

These details were announced at a press conference by Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo, in the presence of Deputy Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority Carlo Micallef and the CEO of the Malta Restaurants and Hoteliers’ Association Andrew Agius Muscat.

Minister Bartolo remarked that while it is important that our country supports the volume of tourists coming to Malta, it is equally important that we make the next leap by improving quality in the tourism sector.

“We need to turn past successes into a guarantee for the future. The Forbes International Star Award is a clear example of where we want to take this industry. This must be a sector that is based on excellence and innovation in every aspect that we all do together”, said Minister Clayton Bartolo.

He added that today’s and future generations expect the government to show its support for similar programmes while investing in more quality infrastructure in tourist locations.

Deputy Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority Carlo Micallef said that the MTA is convinced that this programme will motivate tourist establishments to continue refining their services, an aspect which in itself is another step towards what the authority and the Ministry for Tourism and Consumer Protection are looking at the Tourism Strategy for the next decade.

Meanwhile, Malta Restaurant and Hoteliers Association CEO Andrew Agius Muscat described these certificates as a worldwide stamp on safety and the quality of the Maltese tourist product.
