Tourism is increasingly shaped by experiences
that allow visitors to connect more deeply with
a destination and its locals.
In this edition, we
focus on two important tourism segments
which contribute significantly to Malta’s appeal
and to the continued development of our hospitality
industry: LGBT and Gastronomy tourism.
September places an important focus on Malta’s LGBT
community and LGBT tourism, with Pride taking centre
stage during the month. Malta has developed a strong
international reputation as an inclusive and welcoming
destination, and this continues to be an important part
of how we promote and position the Maltese Islands
internationally
For the Malta Tourism Authority, reaching diverse
audiences through targeted and inclusive marketing
remains essential. LGBT tourism contributes to Malta’s
tourism economy while also supporting businesses across
the HORECA sector.
Accommodation, restaurants,
bars, entertainment venues and events all form part
of the visitor experience, and an inclusive hospitality
offering strengthens both the sector and Malta’s overall
destination brand.
Looking ahead to October, Malta will also welcome Food
on the Edge, the internationally renowned symposium
dedicated to the future of food. The event will bring
together leading chefs, food producers and industry
professionals to exchange ideas on gastronomy,
sustainability and the evolving role of food within our
communities.
Its presence in Malta reinforces the growing importance
of gastronomy tourism. Maltese cuisine tells the story
of our islands through our history, Mediterranean
influences, local produce and traditions. Food has
become an increasingly important part of how visitors
discover a destination, creating opportunities not only for
restaurants, but also for hotels, cafés, bars, producers
and the wider hospitality industry.
Both the LGBT and gastronomy tourism niches
demonstrate how Malta can offer visitors experiences that
extend beyond traditional sightseeing.
They encourage
deeper engagement with our people, culture, hospitality
and values, while creating valuable opportunities
for the HORECA sector and strengthening Malta’s
competitiveness as a year-round destination.
