As we look ahead with determination and focus, we continue to build a more diverse, sustainable, and heritage-rich tourism sector.
In November 2024, we proudly celebrated the launch of a new and culturally significant tourism segment - military tourism. With Malta’s deep-rooted history shaped by centuries of military events and strategic importance, this initiative provides a compelling new way for visitors to connect with our heritage.
Through immersive experiences, travellers can now explore the narratives that have defined our island, from the fortifications that line our shores to the pivotal roles Malta played in historically marked conflicts.
This initiative is not only a tribute to our past but also a strategic effort to diversify our tourism offering, drawing in new audiences and reinforcing the value of preservation.
Building on this momentum, the MTA recently marked War Graves Week with a commemorative event held on May 8 at the Mtarfa Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery.
This solemn occasion honoured the fallen soldiers and acknowledged the lives lost during World War II. It was a poignant reminder of Malta’s wartime legacy and an important continuation of our commitment to respect, remembrance, and education through tourism.
Another highlight of the year was the successful launch of the Malta Tourism Awards 2024, the first of what will become a celebrated annual event.
These awards recognised exceptional leadership in responsible tourism and celebrated the outstanding contributions of individuals and organisations across all sectors of the industry. They also highlighted the immense talent and dedication that continues to elevate Malta’s tourism landscape.
By showcasing these achievements, we aim to inspire others in the sector to strive for excellence, embrace sustainability, and foster innovation.
Lastly, I am honoured to welcome Dr Charles Mangion as the new Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority. With decades of experience and a deep understanding of the national context, Dr Mangion brings a steady hand and visionary leadership to our organisation.
We are confident that his guidance will strengthen our foundations and will help steer the MTA and the industry towards even greater success in the years to come.
Together, with resilience, innovation, and unity, we shall continue working towards more success for Malta’s and Gozo’s tourism sector.
