Malta Tourism Authority CEO Carlo Micallef looks ahead to a continued drive towards diversifying our tourism offering.
The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) is making great steps towards tourism quality. As we step into a fresh new year, we embrace exciting opportunities, innovative ideas, and ambitious targets that will continue shaping Malta’s tourism landscape.
The past year was proof of our efforts, resilience, and commitment to growth, and we are eager to build upon that momentum.Among many initiatives, the MTA has collaborated internationally to showcase Malta’s culinary excellence in November - the MICHELIN Four-Hands Dinner.
This extraordinary event brought together Maltese and French cuisine in an exclusive dining experience that showcases the depth of our gastronomic value.
As part of this initiative, we had the privilege of interviewing Chef Garimbay from Saint James, Paris, in light of his collaboration with Maltese chefs. His insights further emphasize the growing reputation of Malta’s culinary scene on an international scale.
Continuing our efforts to shape the future of Malta’s tourism industry, we build on the discussions from the Malta National Tourism conference of 2023.
‘Shaping the Future’ has been the theme of our second national tourism conference, highlighting our success in 2024, and MTA’s clear vision to plan the future of the Maltese Islands’ tourism industry: sustainable growth, enhanced authentic visitor experiences, and the development of high-value added tourism sectors that set Malta apart from the competition.
With a focus on quality, innovation, and cultural enrichment, we aim to position Malta as a leading destination for travellers seeking authenticity and excellence. Here’s to another year of progress, collaboration, and success!
The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) was formally set up by the Malta Travel and Tourism Service Act (1999). This clearly defines its role - extending it beyond that of international marketing to include a domestic, motivating, directional, co-ordinating and regulatory role. The Act strengthens the public and private partnership in tourism through greater and more direct participation by the private sector in national planning and development of the industry.
