'‘2025 Has Been a Truly Exceptional One for the Sector'
MHRA President Tony Zahra looks forward to the
challenges brought forth by the emerging, long-haul
destinations.
The year 2025 has truly been an exceptional
one for Malta’s tourism sector.
As we enter the
final quarter, projections indicate that total
arrivals will surpass four million visitors by
the end of the year.
This is an extraordinary
milestone that highlights the island’s continued appeal as
a leading Mediterranean destination.
Equally encouraging is the steady increase in spend per
visitor, a clear sign that Malta is attracting travellers
who value quality experiences and are willing to invest
more in accommodation, dining, culture, and leisure.
These trends confirm that 2025 will be remembered as
a landmark year for the industry, one defined by both
growth and transformation.

Looking ahead to 2026, the greatest opportunities lie in
diversifying beyond our traditional European markets.
Emerging segments such as the United States and the Far
East are showing strong potential, not only in numbers
but also in visitor profile and spending power.
This is going
to present a challenge both in seeking to give them what
they require and, of course, ensuring that when they are
here they are going to have a wonderful time.
