In efforts to keep the ever-growing success of our tourism efforts going, the Malta Tourism Authority prepares to participate in various tourism fairs at this time of year. Two of which are the World Travel Market (WTM), a premier global event for the worldwide travel and tourism industry, in London; and the Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB), the world’s largest tourism trade fair in Berlin.
Numerous prominent senior travel industry professionals hailing from around the world anticipate to contribute in such fairs, along with the participation of high government officials that are accompanied by the international press, to meet and visit thousands of travel and tourism suppliers and their exhibitions. Such fairs amass a large amount of industry deals.
These are opportunities where the MTA meets key and prospective travel industry partners to discuss deals over a number of days. The MTA holds continuous appointments at such fairs, some of which are led by the Minister for Tourism, the Malta Tourism Authority Chairman and CEO, the Director of Marketing, and our overseas Directors. Both fairs build a strong relationship between the Malta Tourism Authority and the travel trade.
One of the MTA’s major key selling points in such fairs is always the Malta stand. For this year’s WTM fair and the upcoming ITB fair, the Malta booth will allow the fair visitors to enter the stand immersing themselves into Maltese village life. The guests will be welcomed and seated in a quaint street-like setting, adorned with warm Mediterranean colours, under luminous outdoor string lights to bring the festive cheer of a typical Maltese summer festa. The ‘street’ will feature colourful doors to Maltese homes and a Maltese gallerija (balcony) to convey the feeling of a village ‘core’.
These annual appointments that bring in more tourism business and keep our industry fresh with new ideas do not go amiss without the assistance of our dedicated team at the Malta Tourism Authority. It is my pleasure to hold the authority and the staff with pride for the work that goes behind the scenes to produce such success in the industry.
Let us now look forward to 2024, another opportunity for us to accomplish more in Malta’s tourism sector.
