Malta’s summer soundtrack another sharp
international edge.
SummerDaze returns this year with Lewis Capaldi on August 11 and Calvin Harris on August 15, moving the festival to the Ta’ Qali Concert Area for a larger open air setting in the heart of the island.
Younger holiday-makers are likely to appreciate this one, although the Maltese summer fun comes with no age limits. A Mediterranean break in the height of summer already comes with heat, late dinners, busy village squares and nights that rarely end early.
SummerDaze adds a major live music stop to the biggest festa longweekend, with two headline events built around artists whose songs have travelled far beyond their original charts.
Lewis Capaldi leads the first main event with megahits like Someone You Loved, Hold Me While You Wait, Bruises, Survive and The Day That I Die. These are songs that literally ask to be sung back, loudly and without embarrassment, by thousands of people standing together after sunset.
Capaldi’s strength has always been his ability to turn personal feeling into a collective emotion. In Malta, with the communal vibe firmly driving the season, with residents and visitors sharing the same spaces and events, it doesn’t take a huge leap to find everyone belting it out to the same chorus.
And Lewis Capaldi’s hits were made precisely for this.
The second main event shifts the temperature as Calvin Harris headlines in collaboration with BBC Radio 1 Dance Anthems X and Creamfields.
Harris brings a catalogue built for open air partying with classics like We Found Love, Feel So Close, This Is What You Came For, Sweet Nothing and How Deep Is Your Love.
Festival-goers will get to dance to a decade of radio hits and late night dancefloors.
Expect a very different vibe on each night, ranging from huge emotions to movement and dance. Our advice is to plan your time in Malta well as the same week sees a plethora of other large-scale events taking place, so make sure you pace yourself.
