November 30, 2025End of Year Message – Carlo Micallef

‘Malta Still Has a Lot of Potential to Realise’
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign
Affairs and Tourism Dr Ian Borg shares some
reflections about the outgoing year and what
lies ahead for 2026.
We are continuing to work on
strengthening connectivity; we’ve
seen Qatar Airways opening up
routes to new markets in the Gulf,
Asia and Australia, and Delta will
soon be connecting us to New York.
We are also collaborating closely with the private sector
and investing in accommodation - including, but not
limited to, five-star hotels.

We are taking the improvement of standards in shortterm
rentals very seriously. The restaurant sector, too, is
of great importance, both for the local and international
markets.
The quality continues to rise, thanks to all the
workers who form part of this industry. We recognise, of
course, that challenges remain.
But let’s look to the future to meet and rise to these
challenges, so as to ensure that through the upcoming
year we will continue building on the successes of
the previous one, working towards sustainability and
diversification, as we all continue to work together across
both sides of Parliament, with all stakeholders, including
all the workers in the sector and our local communities,
united in this common goal.
