‘I Look Forward to 2026 in Full Confidence of Further, Exciting Developments’
Malta Tourism Authority CEO Carlo Micallef shares his views about the industry’s roadmap for 2026.
This year that we’re leaving behind us has been a good one for the tourism sector.
We started out in winter with a bang, as we saw a strong occupancy level from visitors. We continued experiencing these positive results all through the following months of the year.
We placed importance on increasing the revenue from the sector. Giving approximate figures, the income from tourism doubled when compared to the rate of incoming visitors.
We are now also seeing new developments in connectivity with new flights connecting Malta directly to New York as of next year, thanks to Delta Airlines.
We also improved our connectivity with Europe and we also saw Qatar Airways start operations once again from Doha. In the past weeks, the Malta Tourism Authority has opened offices in New York and another one in Melbourne, Australia.

These developments align with our strategy to continue focusing on attracting visitors from Europe who are ready to pay more to enjoy all the experiences that our country has to offer.
I am looking ahead to the next year with a lot of optimism, and I thank all those who have contributed to the sector, both from the public and the private sector, who have worked tirelessly to ensure that the industry continues to enjoy such successes.
I await further developments for 2026, in full confidence that we will continue building on this positive streak.
