In an era marked by global connectivity, the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) stands at the forefront of the internationalisation of the tourism and hospitality industry.
As outlined in the Institute's Strategic Plan 2021 - 2025, along with its vision and mission, the Institute of Tourism Studies has strategically collaborated with renowned international institutions to change education in the sector.
Over the past years, ITS has taken significant strides towards its commitment to internationalisation. A foundation of this has been the establishment of collaborative partnerships with distinguished institutes worldwide.
By collaborating with institutions such as The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, Institut Lyfe (formerly known as Institut Paul Bocuse), DAN Europe, and SUNx, ITS widened its course offerings by providing students with a diverse educational experience.
The collaboration strategy has been strengthened by the opening of satellite campuses across the globe. One of the first agreements was made with Aqaba University of Technology (AUT) in Jordan.
This collaboration saw the Institute of Tourism Studies exporting higher education programmes to the Southern Gulf region, marking a historic achievement as the first Maltese educational institution to venture into this territory.
Building on the success with AUT, the Institute further advanced its international presence by entering into an agreement with the Bella Vista Institute of Higher Education Switzerland (BVIS). This institute, affiliated with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Academy in Switzerland, became an invaluable partner in offering ITS flagship programmes.
The collaboration resulted in BVIS offering the prestigious MBA in International Hospitality Management and the Bachelor’s degree in International Hospitality Management.
Most recently, ITS established its third satellite campus in China in partnership with Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Polytechnic. This significant expansion highlights the Institute's dedication to providing world-class education to students in diverse geographical regions.
Students can now enrol in Higher National Diploma programmes with the curriculum provided by ITS.
The global partnerships and satellite campuses represent more than just academic collaborations; they symbolise a commitment to fostering cultural exchange, encouraging diversity, and shaping a more interconnected world.
These initiatives are a testament to ITS's vision and mission of creating a global network of hospitality and tourism professionals who ‘will lead the transformation of tomorrow’s international tourism industry.’
Established in 1987, the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) is Malta's main educational institution for hospitality and tourism. Offering a wide range of study programmes from Foundation to Master's Degree level, ITS provides students with both theoretical and practical education in specialised labs and kitchens.
As an affiliated partner with top international universities, including the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, ITS offers a comprehensive learning experience. In addition to academic studies, ITS provides opportunities for students to pursue further training and specialisations, equipping them with a competitive edge in the industry.
