History Meets Luxury with Heritage Malta’s Exclusive Tours
January 17, 2026
The second edition of the Malta Biennale, titled CLEAN | CLEAR | CUT, will take place from 11 March to 29 May 2026, unfolding across a series of historic sites in Malta and Gozo.
An initiative of Heritage Malta and curated by the internationally acclaimed Rosa Martinez, this major cultural event will once again bring contemporary art into dialogue with the islands’ remarkable heritage, history and architecture.
The Biennale will transform Malta’s most emblematic locations, including fortresses, palaces, museums and archaeological sites, into vibrant spaces for artistic exchange.
Building on the success of its inaugural edition, the Malta Biennale 2026 continues to establish Malta as a significant destination for international contemporary art, where the past and present meet in dynamic conversation.
The curatorial theme, CLEAN | CLEAR | CUT, serves as both a call to action as well as a framework for reflection.
It invites artists to explore concepts of purification, clarity and transformation, asking how art can respond to and reinterpret the social, ethical and environmental challenges of our time.
Through this lens, the Biennale seeks to foster a deeper awareness of how contemporary creativity can illuminate the complexities of human experience while encouraging new ways of seeing and understanding.
The Malta Biennale 2026 will present a global showcase of artistic innovation. It aims to connect local and international audiences through a shared exploration of culture, identity and the enduring power of art to inspire change.
The Malta Biennale was launched in 2024, across 11 weeks, from mid-March until the end of May. The contemporary art platform, which focused on several themes pertinent to and prevalent within the Mediterranean, transformed the Maltese Islands into a melting pot of international artistic activity. The Malta Biennale remains the sole artistic platform to have been granted the distinguished patronage of UNESCO.
