Q: Tell us about your educational background and your work experience to date.

My first summer job at the age of 16, was in a restaurant at a 5-star hotel, which inspired me to pursue studies at ITS. As part of my education, I completed a 12-month internship in the United Kingdom. After seven years in the UK, working in various roles within the Food & Beverage industry in hotels, I returned to Malta. Since 2012, I’ve held managerial positions at Xara Palace Relais & Chateau, InterContinental Malta, and eventually joined The Phoenicia Malta as Food & Beverage Manager. I was promoted to my current role as Hotel Manager in January 2021.

Q: Why are you so passionate about the hotel industry?

It’s difficult to say, really. It’s hard work with a lot of challenges but, knowing that my work has a positive impact on guests’ experience, and the team’s growth which contributes to the success of the hotel is deeply fulfilling. Whether it’s through exceptional service or leadership, I am driven by the opportunity to make a difference and make others happy. I take pride in being part of an industry that supports local tourism, which is constantly evolving, and no two days are ever the same.

Additionally, I hope to mentor and assist in developing more future leaders in the industry.

Q: Tell us one of the most rewarding experiences in your profession to date.

In recent years, my tenure as Hotel Manager, working alongside our General Manager Robyn Pratt, has been both challenging and rewarding. I contributed to numerous projects that enhanced our hotel and elevated the guest experience. In 2023, we achieved record-breaking results, not only financially but also in terms of guest satisfaction. The Phoenicia Malta ranked among the top 5% of The Leading Hotels of the World globally.

Q: What growth do you anticipate for the hospitality and catering industry in the next 20 years?

AI and automation for personalized services, plant-based food, and eco-friendly practices will dominate discussions in the boardroom. With all this in mind, there is substantial growth potential within Malta’s luxury segment. Investors should prioritize quality tourism over quantity. Malta, with its rich history and numerous unique selling points, has a solid foundation for delivering exceptional guest experiences.
