Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in hospitality?
A: I’ve always loved working with people and creating
enjoyable experiences. Hospitality lets me do that every
day while learning about different cultures and ideas. I
was inspired by how this industry brings people together
and helps make their moments special.
Q: What was the most important skill you gained
during your work experience?
A: The most important skill I learned is adaptability.
Things don’t always go as planned, and being able to
stay calm, think quickly, and solve problems has been
very valuable. It’s helped me handle challenges and
staying confident in busy situations.
Q: What do you think are the biggest opportunities for
growth in the hospitality and tourism sectors?
A: Malta has great potential to grow in the luxury
tourism sector. With its rich history, stunning coastline,
and Mediterranean climate, the island is perfectly
positioned to offer high-end, exclusive experiences.
There’s an opportunity to develop luxury resorts, private yacht charters, and tailored, bespoke experiences
that cater to affluent travellers seeking privacy and
exceptional service. Additionally, promoting luxury
wellness retreats, fine dining experiences, and
personalised cultural tours could attract high-net-worth
individuals looking for a refined and unique getaway. As
global demand for luxury travel continues to rise, Malta
can capitalize on its beauty and heritage to become a
premier luxury destination.
Q: What area of the hospitality industry excites you
the most, and why?
A: The area of sales within the hospitality industry
excites me the most because it’s all about building
relationships and creating tailored experiences for
guests. In sales, you’re not just selling a room or a
service – you’re selling an experience and making
lasting connections with clients.
The opportunity to collaborate with marketing teams to create packages, identify potential markets, and find creative ways to attract high-value guests is incredibly rewarding. And with the rise of digital marketing and personalised sales strategies, there are endless possibilities to innovate and drive growth in the industry.
Q: What advice would you give to students about to
embark on their first internship or work experience?
A: Be open to learning and willing to take on any task.
Even small jobs can teach you something valuable.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions and take any
opportunity to meet people who can guide you. Stay
positive, work hard, and treat your time there as a great
opportunity to grow.
