Matteo Bugelli

How are you finding the atmosphere and community
at ITS so far?

I’ve found the atmosphere at the Institute
of Tourism Studies very welcoming and practical. The
community feels supportive, especially because everyone
shares a similar interest in hospitality and tourism. I
enjoy how the courses combine theory with real industry
situations, which makes learning more engaging and
helps me feel prepared for future work in the sector.

What’s one personal strength you feel you bring to
this field?

I believe it’s my communication skills. I enjoy
interacting with different people and making others
feel comfortable and valued. I’m also adaptable and
calm under pressure, which I think is very important
in hospitality because every day can bring different
challenges and situations.

Was there a mentor, colleague, or manager who really
made an impression on you during your internship?

I have completed my internship and one person who really
made an impression on me was one of my lecturers at
the Institute of Tourism Studies. His industry experience
and the way he shared practical advice helped me better
understand the professional side of hospitality. During
my placement, I also learned a lot from the staff around
me, especially by observing how they handled guests,
teamwork, and pressure in a professional environment

The support and guidance I received from ITS also helped
me grow in leadership roles, and today I am proud to be
the Student President of the AEHT 2026. This experience
has helped me improve my communication, teamwork,
and organisational skills while representing students within
the hospitality and tourism sector.

Which area of hospitality excites you the most, and
what is it about it that gets you going?

The areas of finance and human resources. I’m interested in finance because I enjoy understanding how businesses manage budgets, costs, and profitability to keep operations successful. Human resources also interests me because I like the people side of hospitality, especially staff management, teamwork, and helping create a positive working environment. What motivates me most is how both areas play an important role in the success and growth of a hospitality business.

Where do you see the biggest opportunities
for growth in this sector? I believe the biggest
opportunities are in technology, sustainability, and
personalised guest experiences. Many businesses are
now focusing on digital innovation and eco friendly
practices, so there is a growing demand for people who
can combine hospitality skills with modern solutions and
customer focused thinking.
