Q: How do you balance the demands of your studies
with any work experience or internships?
A: Balancing my studies with my part-time sales and
marketing executive role at Hyatt Centric has taught
me the importance of planning and discipline. I create
detailed weekly schedules to manage both academic
deadlines and work responsibilities. Although challenging
at times, integrating lecture theory with real-world
application has been rewarding and crucial for my
professional growth.
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in
hospitality/tourism?
A: Seeing the professionalism, presence, and influence
of directors and key decision-makers within hotels
and tourism businesses. Observing how these leaders
confidently manage large teams and drive the success
of entire operations made a lasting impression. Their
passion and strategic vision motivated me to pursue a
career where I can aspire to hold a significant leadership
role and contribute meaningfully to the industry.
Q: What was the most surprising thing you learned
while working in a real-world hospitality environment?
A: The sheer amount of behind-the-scenes effort
required to ensure everything appears seamless to
the guest. Working in Malta, where tourism is a major economic pillar generating significant revenue, I’ve come
to deeply appreciate how every detail contributes to the
national economy and Malta’s global image. Additionally,
I’ve learned that negotiating to win business plays a
crucial role in our success, it’s an integral part of the work
that drives both revenue and growth in the hospitality
sector.
Q: How do you plan to continue developing your skills
after graduation?
A: By growing within my role and exploring additional
opportunities to continuously enhance my expertise.
Someday, I hope to give back to the sector by teaching
and mentoring future professionals, while also holding a
high-level role in the tourism industry.
Q: How do you plan to make a positive impact on the
hospitality industry, either locally or globally?
A: Locally, I aspire to contribute to the evolution of
Malta’s hospitality scene by promoting authentic
experiences and showcasing the distinctive qualities
of our vibrant culture. Additionally, I am dedicated to
creating healthier workplace environments in the
industry.
